It is finally the middle of the school year. In terms of the new grading period, this comes as a huge relief. It is the first time that you can finally get a fresh start. The term has been insanely stressful, so consider this like a new year. Take a little break, relax, and be proud that you put in so much effort last term. However, this is an opportunity to look at the work that you have done and critique yourself. Everybody can achieve more than what they currently are, and everyone has potential. The midyear point is a good time to help set yourself straight. Many studies have shown that almost all students are dissatisfied and feel like they could have been doing better, which is typically true, but don’t be too harsh on yourself. Being a student can be tiring, and at many times just simply not rewarding. Basically, what I am trying to get at, is that the best way we can learn is through our own personal experience, and the process of starting a new semester is just that. It is a break and a refresher of everything that has passed. Don’t get stuck on any disappointments you experienced, because there is no way you can change your past. Instead, learn from them, and use them as a reference as to how to do better. Consider the new semester like a new year, set resolutions, and use it as a time to reflect on how you did. This may mean you want to do better, change your focus, or even maybe change your courses, be open to what is the best option for you and make sure it is as productive as possible.
