Today January 21, 2017 women around the world join together to raise awareness of women’s rights and other rights that could be under threat under the 45th president of the U.S., Donald Trump. The second day of after Trump’s presidency and there are already riots against him. This event was set to start in Washington and continue to attract around a quarter of million participants. It started with a google event that went viral, and started spreading around the world Around 600 marches around the US are also planned. Women and men in Sydney, Berlin, London, Paris, and Cape Town have joined to march in solidarity and opposition to the values that Trump represents. Chants from the crowd included “women united will never be defeated” and “when women’s rights are under attack, what do we do, stand up, fight back.” Some carried banners with messages such as “Girl Power vs. Trump Tower” and “Dump the Trump. Women’s March on Washington advocate equal pay for women, access to affordable childcare, sick days, health care, paid family leave and healthy working environments: policies that benefit men as well. Meanwhile, the only people who appear to benefit financially from the notion that feminism has destroyed men’s economic lives are those who scream about it the loudest.   Thousands of people have been busy trying to knit hats that will be worn in the march and show the “Sea of pink.” Other organizations call it the Pussyhat Project. Around 10,000 hats were made to be distributed around the 50 states and even in France and New Zealand.
