World Cup trophy

Thankfully soon, the 21 st World Cup will be upon in the beautiful yet chilly Russia.
Before I start, I must state, for legal purposes and to avoid abuse on the Internet after
all my predictions turn out to be completely and embarrassingly wrong, that I am not
a Football expert by any means and just a biased Egyptian fan.

Firstly, to get it out of the way, England is probably going to win their first game of
the group, then draw the second, and edge out a win in the third to top their group all
to end up being knocked out by some random country like Costa Rica in the round of
16 and return home to abuse from the nation, mostly on twitter, with their manager
getting sacked in the process due to tradition of course.

Russia is mostly likely going to struggle in their group thanks to a lack of quality in
their squad as well as lack of preparation, or, in other words, a long night in the bar on the
night before a game. I predict Russia will not even get out of their group despite the
advantage of having the largest number of fans at the tournament, well actually, come
to think about it, Egypt would probably have the largest number of fans at the
tournament, even more than the Russians, but hey what do I know? I am just some
biased football fan from Egypt.

No one can deny that Germany is massive favorites to retain the title after a perfect
qualifying campaign wining all their games and barely conceding any goals. Spain is a
close contenders though, with a 9 out of 10 wins in their qualifying campaign and
drawing remaining game, which means both these teams have not lost a game while
qualifying for the Mundial next summer in Russia.

I do believe all of Iceland, Costa Rica, and Egypt can be the extreme underdogs and
surprise teams of the tournament. Iceland have a real team bond, which was heavily
seen in their 2016 Euro campaign in France, where they beat England and sent the
internet into chaos with their famous “Viking” or “Clapping” celebration. Costa Rica
is a huge undefined quantity, as it was a shock of them even qualifying for the
World Cup in the first place. Costa Rica could either set the tournament on fire, or
just be another team that makes up the numbers. Finally, with the help of premier
league stars Salah, Sobhi, and El Neny, Egypt could turn a few heads and put a dent
in the tournament.

For the player awards, the best Goal Keeper/Most Clean Sheets will probably go to
either David De Gea or Neuer, depending on whether Spain or Germany go farther in
the tournament. For the top goal scorer, I tip Morata for Spain or Greizman for France
to come just behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the golden boot. Now for the best
player, I truly believe it will be Messi, even if Argentina do not win the cup, Messi
will probably still have some moments of magic that will drops jaws and win him the
award. Finally, I am expecting big things from the Croatian Ante Coric, who has been
labeled as the future Modric for the nation, and has made 2 appearances for his
national side while just being 18 years of age.

With the stats and humor aside, this World Cup may turn out to be an unforgettable
one, with an anticipated 3.2 billion viewers world wide connected under the common
love of Football, which is why no matter what happens, I am sure that the tournament
will be a success.
